- "Missy...you are absolutely right! There are several reasons why soon
there will not be a Regionals.
Many that we prefer not to put in writing. However, one major reason is our
COACHES!
They are AFRAID that other coaches are going to take/steal their
students...therefore,
not allowing other skaters/coaches to practice/teach at their club to try
and produce more skaters.
Even if that coach only brings in one skater, can we really afford not to
welcome just that ONE SKATER???
- Soon the coaches will have their way, because there will not be anyone
left!
We have experienced COACHES that would rather see skaters QUIT, than allow
coaches to teach with them. How sad is that???
- Someone at the Great Lakes Pre-Region described our sport
perfectly...Terminally ILL.
We can keep it on life support, but there is not a cure..........Unless the
group that is left decides to work together
(and we personally do not see that happening because we have experienced it
FIRST HAND) the sport will die sooner than later.
If the coaches truly wanted to save this sport, they would find a way to
work together! Phone calls and emails are welcome!" "Paul & Debbie

- "Missy, I'm in full agreement with your ideas. I have been a full time
coach for many years and have stood behind our agreement
that if you skate Regionals you should skate Nationals. As of this year,
because the National office will allow almost everybody
to participate, then we should just allow all to skate the Regional
Championships and what comes of it will acceptable to me.

Subject: URGENT NOTICE TO ALL SOUTHERN ARTISTIC COACHES
Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2008 13:25:26 -0400
From: bax1000@aol.com
Hi Everyone,
IN RESPONSE TO MISSY LETTER TO COACHES:
Talking with the field there seems to be a
solution, coming from the coaches, to stop the
dropping numbers at the Regional Championships.
We can have Qualifying Entries and Non
Qualifying Entries in the same event. Skaters
that do not wish to attend the National
Championships could enter on a Non Qualifying
Entry form which will state their intention of
not skating the National Championships. This
form MUST be signed by a skater over 21, a
parent or a legal guardian The event will be
skated and tabulated with both Qualifying and
Non Qualifying skater and the Medals awarded.
The Non Qualifiers will then be removed from the
tabulating sheets and the event will be re
tabulated. This tab sheet will give us the
Qualifying Placements to go to the National
Championships. (They will NOT receive medals
should they be a qualifying skater.) Thus EVERY
skater that qualifies will be able to attend the
National Championships and non- qualifier will
not.
We have a very small window of time to put
together some important information (Sunday, May
4, 2008 to be submitted to the National office
for approval for immediate acceptance). Please
send me a list of your regional entries. Then,
please send me a detailed list of all the
skaters, and the events they would skate if
they could enter as NON QUALIFIERS. Keep in
mind that they would not take any spots away
from the skaters who want to attend the National
Championships. Please be as accurate as you
can. Central Florida has at least 8 skaters
skating 21 events totaling $840.00. This is one
club. I have talked with others as well that
this would effect. We will have to really come
together very quickly to make this happen!
NOTE:
This proposal was submitted by
Gloria at last
years Regional Championship and there were some
who did not agree with it. She also presented
it to the National Coaches meeting where it
was discarded in favor of the "sliding rule"
(which we all know only effects a few Regions).
In view of the economy we all feel confident
that those who were not in favor last year will
see the financial benefit this year. Fact being
that the National office is willing to present
it to the Executive Committee provided the
numbers justify the means.
If you care
about the growth of our sport willing to jump on
the moving train it is IMPERATIVE YOU ACT
NOW WHILE YOU CAN. Every club MUST respond.
I am thanking
you in advance for your quick response

- "Although it is to late...........and I'm
sure no one will agree...the B&C events should
STOP at the Regional level.
Our sport started its decline from the inception
of the JO events qualifying for the national
championships.
By stopping the events at this level, nationals
would become more affordable for
skaters/coaches,
eliminate the obligation to skate nationals if
you are not prepared or do not want to, and IMO
start rebuilding the sport to
the quality and numbers when nationals was only
7 days long. Yes, we need beginner events, but
not at the national level.
It will take a few years to rebuild the
quality...but take a good look now!!!
For those of your that were around during the
GREAT SKATING DAYS, the events were full
(including TEAM dance),
there was no solo dance, and skaters had to EARN
their way to nationals. However, not everyone
got a medal,
and there wasn't more events than skaters!!! IMO
it is a little late in the year to have skaters
sign a form stating
they do not want to qualify for nationals.
Hum.....what happens if they get first in their
event and decide they want
to go to nationals? LEGALLY how would that play
out? Did no one see this coming until a week
prior to the regional entry due date???
I can appreciate the idea and effort...however,
seems like we are always a day late and dollar
short! Too many changes,
and not enough THOUGHT process... HOW
SAD......................" "Web site" "Debbie

By stopping these events at the regional level,

- The purpose for this feedback page is to
offer positive solutions and to let everyone
have the
opportunity to offer there advice on the issue
at hand. Our current issue is to come up with a
solution
that will help everyone grow their club and be
proactive about the reality of the economy and
how it WILL
affect our sport if we don't get pretty
aggressive to find a solution. So please, offer
your advise on how
to solve this issue. It does not help for us as
coaches to focus on the past or complain about
things that
we can not go back in time to change. The
reality is that we need to find away to focus on
the good and make
it better!" "Web site" "Missy Lingo"

- "The past ""WORKED""...The sport needs to
COMPLETELY start over...eliminate the B&C events
at
the National level, keep them at the local and
regional level. Minimize the rules to these
events
so they are simple for the beginner skater. Put
control of the sport back into the Rink
operators hands.
We have approximately 86 events and 130 first
entries at regionals. How much sense does that
make?????
In addition, the sport needs a non bias
committee (possibly non skaters), ""LIKE UNION""
that skaters, parents,
& coaches can turn to for unfair issues that
take place. So...there are SEVERAL suggestions
to help get the
sport started back in the right direction. I bet
they go on deaf ears!!!" "Web site" "Debbie
